Surprise call-up for Moloney
August 07, 2002

Andy Maloney
Former Tipperary player Andy Moloney has received a surprise call-up to the Waterford team for Sunday's All-Ireland hurling semi-final against Clare at Croke Park.
Moloney's only championship start to date was against Cork in the Munster semi-final but he was substituted after just 25 minutes. The Ballygunner clubman has been chosen at centre forward and will be expected to curb the influence of Clare's brilliant centre back Seanie McMahon.
Moloney's selection is at the expense of James Murray who was named as a corner back against Tipperary but lined out in midfield.
In another surprise move, regular midfielder Tony Browne switches to right half back with Peter Queally and Eoin Kelly listed to start in midfield. There had been speculation that Dave Bennett might make the starting line-up but he has to be content with a place among the substitutes.
Waterford (SHC v Clare): S Brenner; B Greene, T Feeney, B Flannery; T Browne, F Hartley, E Murphy; P Queally, E Kelly; E McGrath, A Moloney, K McGrath; J Mullane, S Prendergast, P Flynn.
