Johnny McGeeney has stepped down after two years in charge of the New York football team.
After losing to Sligo and Offaly respectively in last year’s Connacht SFC and Tailteann Cup, the Armagh native guided the Exiles to an historic penalty shootout victory over Sligo in this year’s Connacht SFC quarter-final before losing heavily to Sligo in the semi-final. But his side redeemed themselves somewhat in last Saturday’s five-point Tailteann Cup preliminary round quarter-final loss to Carlow.
It was the first time that New York played three championship games in one season and McGeeney signed off by saying on social media: “Thanks for the memories lads, it’s been a blast.”
