Cambridge Parnells notes
December 11, 2007
The Irish Community of Cambridge got together for the end-Of-year
Cambridge GAA dinner on Friday 30th of November at Lucy Cavendish
College, Cambridge. Over 70 people enjoyed the evening, as medals and
awards were given out. John Regan won our player of the year award -
describing himself as 'consistent but never fantastic'.
On hand to present the trinkets were publicans and sponsors Brian
O'Sullivan and Tadgh Moynihan. Tadgh, who back in 1995 re-founded the
University team recounted some great stories about the team's exploits
in erecting pitches at 6am for a Varsity Match! Captain Martin O'Connell
(just back from Japan and Taiwan) thanked Brian and Tadgh for their
support as well as that of the all important wifes-and-girlfriends.
Although Jim Edmonds (Captain and Secretary of the 1970-80's Harps team)
was unable to make it due to a family beriabement, a number of his
former charges were there including Jim McGreal, Tony Masterson and
Johnny Cafferkey. Johnny was surprised to see himself in a University
photo from 1968 - forgetting playing Gaelic Football for a University
that he was never a student at!
Photos from the event and over 700 photos from other Cambridge GAA
events can be found on the club photo gallery:

The Cambridge Hurling team fell one point short of a weakened St Marys
Strawberry Hill (3-4 to 3-3) in a challenge match the previous weekend.
Martin Coleman and Evin Coogan (from UEA, Norwich) were the pivotal
players for Cambridge. Chris Ketteringham ended his hurling retirement
to take up control of the small square.
After the hurling, Cambridge University's Gaelic Football team played
its 3rd match against Brighton University the previous weekend, winning
a topsy-turvy game. Many thanks to both teams for travelling to Cambridge.
At the end of the playing season for 2007, Cambridge looks forward to
more Gaelic Games in the coming year - an perhaps as much success!
