Cambridge Parnells GFC notes

May 08, 2007
Cambridge Parnells Gaelic Football Club, founded 2006, won its first trophy - the Cahill and Hurley Cup - in St Albans on the 29th of April. After beating hosts St Colmcilles as well as Erin Gaels and St. Dympna's (both from Luton) in the group stages the team qualified for the final to play Glen Rovers from Watford. Having lost badly to the Watford team in the group stages the result of the final was not clear, however thanks to some excellent defending from James O'Connell and Jerry Buckley and some accurate shooting from Paul Lynch and Padraig Finn, Cambridge ran home winners by 0-8 to 0-2. Captain John Regan collected the trophy to rapturous applause from the new team. Training continues on Coldham's Common on Thursdays at 7pm with matches throughout the summer. Two days previous to this 50 Gaels from Cambridge and the University enjoyed an Annual Dinner dance at Lucy Cavendish College. The event was a great success and marks a year of progress for the Parnells club and the university teams. Local 7-a-side League: Cambridge Parnells would like to encourage experienced or novice players to get in touch as we will be starting a local 7-a-side competition on Coldham's Common on Tuesday and Wednesday Evenings in Mid May.
