Western Gaels GAC Bristol Club Notes

July 16, 2007
The Gaels made the journey to Cardiff to take on St. Colmcilles in the second round of the league on Thursday 12th July. A great performance all round from a Gaels side lacking in experience compared to their great rivals and this lack of experience as well as some good fortune for the Cardiff side meant that the result didn't quite go the way of the Gaels Goalkeeper Matthew McMahon kept a clean sheet in a very good performance between the sticks. Darragh Scanlon had a great game notching up a personal tally of six points. There were good performances also from Brendan Coleman, Michael Hughes and Joe Button, who all made their Gaelic debuts in a baptism of fire, with both Hughes and Coleman unlucky not to score, and Button getting a fine point from play. Final Score:- St Colmcilles, Cardiff 0-12 Western Gaels, Bristol 0-12 Western Gaels Team -M. McMahon, R. O'Neill, D. Quinn, C. O'Rourke, D. McMullan, C. Connolly, E. Scanlon, B. McCarthy, J. Scorers - Darragh Scanlon 0-06 (0-03 frees), Anton Bolton 0-03 (0-02 frees), Martin Hassan 0-02 and Joe Button 0-01 Everyone at the club would like to wish Michael Hughes a speedy recovery from the broken nose he sustained during the game, not the debut he had in mind!
