Mid-Summer BBQ
A large number of local Gaels gathered at Pairc Thir na nOg last Friday night for the club's eagerly awaited Mid-Summer Steak Barbecue. This all-ticket event, which took place on the eve of Tyrone's All-Ireland Quarter-Final match at Croke Park, was a celebration of our county's recent Ulster Final victory and the contribution made by Moy players Colm, Philip, Ryan and Sean.
None of the four county stars were present on the night as they were in Dublin preparing for the big match against Meath, but upwards of 200 club members and friends came along to the Moy G.A.A. grounds to celebrate the part played by the Tir na nOg quartet in bringing the Anglo-Celt Cup back to Tyrone last month. It was a hugely enjoyable affair, and those in attendance praised the excellent food on offer and the camaraderie that was prevalent throughout.
Everyone present was treated to a very tasty meal, which was cooked in the stand and served outside by event organiser Mary Daly and her band of helpers. A marquee was erected on the main playing field where the vast majority of people went inside to eat their steak barbecue. There was also musical entertainment inside the marquee and dancing continued late into the night.
This celebratory BBQ was the brainchild of club secretary Mary Daly who, along with the rest of the organising committee, deserve tremendous credit for what turned out to be a wonderful social occasion and a great night's craic. The club offer sincere gratitude to everyone who helped out before, during and/or after the event. Thanks also to our sponsors and all those who supported this venture in any way.
Under 16 League (Grade 3)
An Mhaigh 3-10
An Chraobh 2-12
Moy Under 16's continue to lead the way in section 3A of the league following an amazing one point victory at home to Stewartstown last week (Wednesday 1st August). This was an incident-packed encounter between two highly committed and finely balanced teams. The riverside lads came from behind in the closing stages to grab a dramatic win, their fourth in the current campaign.
This was Moy's first home game of the season and, in front of a large attendance at Pairc Thir na nOg, the boys in blue showed plenty of grit and determination to maintain their perfect start to the competition. Ryan Mallon top scored with a personal tally of 3-5 for the winners, but every player on the Moy team contributed handsomely to this latest victory, including defenders Adrian O'Neill and Stephen Beaddie who came upfield late in the match to fire over crucial points.
It was an epic struggle from start to finish, with both teams thriving in the excellent conditions. There were many outstanding passages of football and, in the end, Moy were delighted to come out on top on a scoreline of 3-10 to 2-12.
Team & Scorers: Nathan Brady; Adrian O'Neill (0-1), Eoghan O'Neill, Matt Dynes, Stephen Beaddie (0-1), Anthony Rafferty; Aaron Donaghy and Cormac O'Neill; Ryan Mallon (3-5, 2 frees, 1 '45'), Eunan Deeney, Ryan Nugent, Paddy Fox (0-3), Mark Gribbin. Sub used: Tiarnan Donohue.

Sympathy
It was with deep regret and sorrow that the committee, players and members of An Mhaigh Tir na nOg G.A.C. learned of the death on Friday 3rd August of Mrs Josephine Heaney (Drummullan, Co. Derry), sister of our esteemed Honorary President Fr. Vincent Darragh P.P. To the deceased's entire family circle, we at the club extend our heartfelt sympathy.
Disappointing Day in Croker
Commiserations to Colm, Philip, Ryan, Sean and the entire Tyrone squad and management on their narrow defeat at the hands of Meath in last weekend's All-Ireland Quarter-Final clash at Croke Park. Many Moy Gaels made their way to the capital for what turned out to be a terrific spectacle. It was not to be for the Red Hands, who had their All-Ireland hopes for 2007 shattered by an impressive Meath side, but we are still proud of the efforts of our county side this year.
Ladies Notes
Moy senior ladies team will travel to Carrickmore for a Division One league fixture this Wednesday evening (8th August) at 7.30pm. All girls are asked to assemble at the Tir na nOg clubrooms by 6.00pm. The 'B' Championship semi-final clash against St Dympna's is expected to take place next week.
Meanwhile, Moy's two recent Under 12 fixtures against Ardboe and Fr Rock's were both postponed. Aiden McCormack and Dessie Farmer's young team, who won their opening match at home to Galbally O.C., are scheduled to play Aodh Ruadh, Dungannon this Saturday (11th August) at 12.00pm. The Moy girls are requested to be at the Tir na nOg pitch for 11.15am.
Finally, well done to the Eglish camogs who defeated Ardboe in the semi-final of the senior championship at Edendork last Sunday afternoon. We wish them every success in the final. Good luck, also, to the Tyrone senior ladies who take on near neighbours Armagh in the All-Ireland S.F.C. Quarter-Final this weekend.
