Derrytresk Senior & Reserve Football The seniors were at home to Glenelly on Sunday and were hoping to bounce back after the previous poor performance. The first half however didn't go that way with Glenelly racing infront by 10 points with two late scores from the home team in the half to get the hill off the mark. The second half though we managed to turn things around and after our first point of the half Ronan O'Neill scored his third goal in as many games to close the gap. With Joseph McKee converting the frees and Conor O'Neill always a threat and with time running out we managed to get a draw in the end. Something that looked very unlikely at half time. The team showed good spirit with other strong performances from Caolin McGrath and Kevin Quinn. Derrytresk Scorers, Joseph McKee 0-5, Conor O'Neill 0-3, Ronan O'Neill 1-0 and Mark Campbell 0-1. The reserves performance was somewhat different with the Hill going quickly infront by 5 but were upable to keep up with Glenelly who ran out winners in the end. Derrytresk Scorer : M. Loch Mhic Ruairi Naomh Treasa The Senior team bowed out the Championship on Saturday evening past after going down to a strong Coalisland side 4-10 to 0-7. After a bright opening our 1A opponents took control of proceedings and we could not force our way back into the tie. The sides next league fixture will be next Sunday (10th June) when we play host to Kildress. The Minor team have been drawn to face Clonoe in the League Quarter final at home on Tuesday 26th June. The U-14 team returned to winning ways on Sunday morning in the Championship Quarter final recording a 5-15 to 5-7 victory over Galbally. The reserves also picked up two valuable league points with a 2-10 to 11 point win. The minor boys progressed to the playoff stages of the leagues after Omagh failed to field on Monday night. They await confirmation of this up and coming fixture. The under 14 boys had a comprehensive victory over Clonoe on Saturday. They showed great team spirit and some fine individual talent as they progressed to the next round of the championship The Senior ladies displayed a solid performance over Aodh Ruadh in their first outing of 2007 when they overcame the opposition by 2 points. Gemma Begley's long range effort which somehow found the back of the net proved to be the decisive score. Their next fixture is also at home on Saturday at 730pm to last year's league champions, St Macartan's. The Reserve ladies have their next game against Moortown tonight (Thursday) and all players are asked to meet at the field at 6pm. As usual, all new players are welcome. An Mhaigh Tir na nÓg G.A.C. Tyrone SFC First Round An Mhaigh 2-5 Cill Dreasa 2-6 At a bright and breezy Pomeroy last Sunday evening, Moy's senior championship aspirations were dashed for another year as the plucky Sky blues suffered a rather unfortunate one point defeat at the hands of Kildress. We went into this first round tie against the current Division 1B league leaders with high hopes but came away feeling very frustrated at how things unfolded. Things had been going reasonably well for Moy in the first half until a sideline fracas just before the break resulted in the dismissal of our centre forward Ryan Mellon. The Tir na nOgs did not instigate the flare-up but paid the ultimate penalty and were forced to play the remainder of the match with a man less. It was a controversial and critical moment in the game, coming some seven minutes into injury time at the end of the half, and Ryan can count himself rather unlucky to have been the only player sent off in an incident that involved members from both teams. Up until that point, Moy had been playing some fine attacking football and looking like a good bet to progress to the next round. Goals from Ryan Mellon (penalty) and Padraig Laverty, combined with early points by Colm Cavanagh and Kris Kavanagh, put their side five points ahead at the end of the opening quarter. Although a defensive error did allow Kildress in for an equalising goal after 22 minutes, the Tir na nOgs moved clear again with points from Philip Jordan and Karol McQuade to lead 2-4 to 1-5 at half-time. Ryan's straight red card was to have a major effect on Moy's second half display and, despite a determined backs-to-the wall performance from the team, it was our opponents who managed to snatch victory by virtue of a soft goal in the 48th minute and a lead point late in the match. Playing against a fairly stiff breeze, Moy scored only once in this half - a Sean Cavanagh pointed free nine minutes from the end - but did have opportunities to at least earn a draw. It was tough on the Moy men who had to play a critical period of this contest with just fourteen players and they struggled to make any impact in a second half marred by persistent fouling. It looked for a long time that the team in blue would secure a share of the spoils and, given the huge amount of effort they put in, deserved a replay. However, the final scoreline read: Moy 2-5 Kildress 2-6. The players and management must now regroup for the remainder of the league campaign and strive to secure enough points to retain the club's senior status. Team & Scorers: Barry Gribbin; Gary Jordan, Tommy McNicholl, Mark Donnelly; Niall Conlon, Mark Jordan, Ryan O'Neill; Sean Cavanagh (0-1, 1 free) and Philip Jordan (capt, 0-1); Colm Jordan, Ryan Mellon (1-0, 1 pen), Karol McQuade (0-1); Padraig Laverty (1-0), Colm Cavanagh (0-1), Kris Kavanagh (0-1). Sub used: Thomas Conlon (49 mins). Under 18 League An Mhaigh v Doire Treasc Moy minors finished their season on a disappointing note last week (Wednesday 23rd May) when losing at home to a more experienced Derrytresk side in the league. At a damp and drizzly Pairc Thir na nOg, the severely depleted and injury-hit Sky Blue team could not emulate their recent performance away to Clogher which earned them their only win in this grade. Yet, despite their poor run of results and bad run of injuries this season, much credit must still go the players and management who stuck faithfully to their task each week in difficult circumstances. The vast majority of players in this year's Moy minor squad are still eligible to play at Under 18 level next season and they will have benefitted greatly from the invaluable experience gained over the past number of months. That this young panel of players were able to compete so well in many of their matches can also be attributed to the excellent coaching provided by team mentors Philip Jordan and Niall Kelly. Against Derrytresk, the Moy lads started well and were on level terms after eight minutes thanks to scores from Anthony McGuckian and Talal Jomar. The visitors began to take control midway through the half, however, and they soon succeeded in building up an unassailable lead. A Tony O'Neill fisted goal and Ryan Mallon pointed free before the break gave Moy a glimmer of hope but it was a rampant Derrytresk who continued to impress in the second half, eventually winning out by a comfortable margin. Team & Scorers: Nathan Brady; Stephen Beaddie, Jim Kelly (0-1), Conor Kelly, Adam Currie, Mark Gribbin; Conor Tennyson and Ryan Mallon (0-2, 2 frees); Eunan Deeney, Talal Jomar (1-1), Anthony McGuckian (0-1), Tony O'Neill (2-0), Art Kelly. Subs used: Paddy Fox, Odhran Burke and Shane McKeown. Adult & Youth Team News Moy seniors and reserves are away to Clonoe in Division 1B of the Tyrone All-County League this Sunday (3rd June). Please note the earlier throw-in times for both games. The reserve match will commence at 1.30pm, while the senior clash will follow afterwards at 3.00pm. The date has been announced for the Moy reserve team's opening championship encounter in 2007. The Tir na nOg 'seconds', managed this year by Declan Cavanagh, will play Aghyaran at home in the preliminary round of the Senior Reserve Knock-out Championship on Saturday 9th June. A throw-in time is still to be confirmed. Congratulations to Moy underage players Harry Loughran and Stefan Lavery who starred for St Patrick's Academy, Dungannon in their recent Dalton Cup Schools Final victory over St Colman's, Newry. Harry lined out at midfield for his school team, while Stefan played at full forward. Both players appear destined for a great future in the game. Meanwhile, now that their interest in the league is over for the season, Moy Under 14s will be focussing all of their attention on the championship. Sean Cartmill, Raymond Kelly and Paul Dynes's young charges will play Brocagh at home in the quarter-finals of the knock-out competition this Tuesday evening (29th May), with a throw-in time of 7.15pm. Moy Under 12s made the shot journey to Edendork last week (Monday 21st May) for their first challenge match of the year. All 22 players who represented Moy on the night contributed well to what was a comfortable victory. The lads were back in action again last Saturday (26th May) when they played Derrymacash Wolfe Tones away. This game saw Moy turn in a superb all round team display to emerge victorious on a scoreline of 4-10 to 2-5. As part of their continued preparation for the league, the Sky Blue boys will travel to County Derry this Wednesday evening for a friendly fixture against Magherafelt. Moy's opening league game, meanwhile, will be at home to Brocagh on Monday 4th June at 7.00pm. Well done to Moy U-12 player Declan Conroy who recently had the honour of representing Tyrone at Clones. The occasion was the Ulster Championship First Round clash between Tyrone and Fermanagh when, during half-time, Declan lined out for his county in the Primary School Exhibition match. The eldest son of Moy senior player and youth team mentor Martin made quite an impression when scoring a point and setting up a a goal in the game. Declan, it would seem, has already surpassed the greatest footballing achievements of his famous father! The Annual Tyrone GAA Summer Camp is scheduled to take place in Moy from Monday 6th to Thursday 9th August 2007. Application/Registration Forms are available from the local Primary School. They should be completed in full and returned before the school closes for the summer holidays. It is very important that all children are fully registered before the start of the Summer Camp to avoid disappointment. Only those who are registered on time can be guaranteed to receive their chosen kit size by the end of the Summer Camp week. Anyone seeking further information should contact An Runai Mary Daly or Youth Co-ordinator Karol McQuade. Under 10 Blitz Moy Under 10's were in good form at the blitz held in Aghaloo last Saturday. Team White were narrowly beaten in their two games against Derrytresk and Brocagh with only the minimum separating the teams in the first match. There was nothing in it throughout the game with some tenacious tackling from the defence and clearances which formed the catalyst to scores from midfield and forwards alike. In the defence Matthew Collins did sterling work, in midfield Ryan Casey stood out whilst in the forward line Mark Regan and Cormac Mallon were on target. A number of players on the White Team have only just moved up to Under 10's this year and are showing great improvement each week, being helped on by the more experienced members of the squad. Team White: Aaron Burns, Ryan Casey, Matthew Collins, Emmett Daly, Rory Magee, Cormac Mallon, Ronan Mallon, Adam Murray, Arturs Pumpere, Michael Quinn, , Mark Regan The Moy Blues played Stewartstown and Aghaloo. In the first game against Stewartstown, the boys showed good interplay and tackling from the defence through the midfield and into the forward line where Aaron Burns in his first match for The Blues scored a good outfield point. Final score Moy Blues 6 Stewartstown 3. The second game was great to watch with the story being a tale of two halves. Aghaloo had all the play in the first half and were leading 3-1 at half time. The stars of the day were Tom Loughran in defence, Philip Mallon in the forward line, who played his part as a third midfielder, and Ryan Coleman who scored three long range points at the start of the second half. This started a Moy resurgence, transforming the half-time score from 3-1 to 4-3 in Moy's favour only five minutes into the half. Aghaloo fought back hard to bring the sides level to six points each with only a minute to play, and then Rory Magee received a pass which he kicked over the black spot from distance out on the left wing to complete another Blues win. Team Blue: Aaron Burns, Jack Campbell, Ryan Coleman, Jordan Conroy, Conor Foster, Eoghan Kelly, Francie Kelly, Tom Loughran, Patrick Mackle, Philip Mallon, Rory Magee. The team coaches Aidan Coleman, Paul Kelly, Colin Lavery and Tommy Foster were well pleased with the performance of all the players on both teams and especially proud of the heart and determination demonstrated by our players in their second half performance in the Aghaloo game. The message to all the players is to keep up the good work! Training will take place this Saturday morning at 9.30am - players should try and be there for 9.20am. Any parents who have not yet ordered their tickets for the Monte Carlo Night are requested to please send in their monies on Saturday morning. Youth Fundraiser The Moy Youth Development Committee will be holding their eagerly awaited 'Monte Carlo Evening' and Casino Night in Loughran's Bar, Moy on Friday 8th June. Club members, friends and all parents of underage players are urged to support this major fundraising event. Tickets are priced at £30 each with a table of ten costing £300. Proceeds will go towards the costs of youth provision and ensuring the future sporting development of all the children within our club. For more information, please contact: Raymond Kelly, Martin Deeney, Tommy Foster or any member of the Moy Youth Development Committee. Underage Hurling Moy's young Under 10 hurlers travelled to Carrickmore last Friday evening to take part in a Blitz under the Quick Touch rules. It proved to be a very worthwhile and productive outing for the Tir na nOg lads who played in a series of games against top quality opposition. Their victories over Killyclogher and Fintona were the major highlights of the night and among those keeping a close watch on Moy's progress were Karol McQuade, Peter McKearney and Kevin Mallon. They along with a number of others have been doing great work of late promoting the game of hurling at underage level in Moy. Meanwhile, the young hurlers of Moy are due to take part in an Under 8 Blitz at Dungannon this Friday evening (1st June) at 6.30pm and in an Under 12 Blitz at Dungannon this Saturday morning (2nd June) at 10.30am. Both of these blitzes will be played under the Go Games rules. Good luck to all concerned. Ladies Notes Senior League Division 1 St Dympna's 1-6 An Mhaigh 4-8 Moy senior ladies made a stunning debut in Division One of the Tyrone All-County League, last week (Tuesday 22nd May). The 2006 Intermediate Champions travelled to Dromore to take on local side St Dympna's and, in their first taste of top flight action, they produced a top class display to emerge victorious by eleven points. It was a perfect start to what we hope will be a productive first season for the Tir na nOg ladies in the senior grade. The team played some sparkling football on an ideal night for football and showed tremendous belief to get off to a winning start. Moy currently top the Division 1 table alongside the 'big two' of Carrickmore and Errigal Ciaran and, while much tougher tests lie ahead for the Sky Blues this year, there can be no doubt that the players have been given a massive boost of confidence by this opening result. The Moy cailini set out their stall early against St Dympna's and, despite conceding the opening score from a free-kick, dominated the remainder of the first half. Recently returned from her studies in England, Eimear McKearney was back between the sticks for Moy and her reassuring presence helped the rest of the team. The Moy defence was magnificent all through, restricting St Dympna's to just one score in the opening thirty minutes, and our dominance at midfield helped create many attacking opportunities for what was a very lively and clinical forward division. Points from Nina Murphy (2) and Sarah Rafferty put their side 0-3 to 0-1 ahead midway through the half, and things got even better for Moy in the second quarter as goals by Sarah Rafferty and Maeve McKearney extended that advantage. Half-Time: St Dympna's 0-1 Moy 2-3. The visitors were determined not to allow their opponents back into the game and made a terrific start to the second half with further points from Nina Murphy and Sarah Rafferty, either side of a wonder goal by Alice Murphy. Moy then had a defender sin-binned for ten minutes which allowed St Dympna's to capitalise with some well taken scores. However, the closest they got to Moy was within nine points as our defence stood firm in the face of mounting pressure. Nina Murphy also grabbed a vital goal during this period and, when the winners were restored to fifteen players again, successfully closed the game out with points from Nina (2) and Claire Ogle. This was a terrific team effort from Moy with every player making a significant contribution to what was a fully deserved 4-8 to 1-6 victory. Team & Scorers: Eimear McKearney; Colette Jordan, Colleen McCance, Michelle Gribbin; Charlene Murphy, Patricia Conroy, Jenna Hagan; Sarah Rafferty (1-2) and Rionach Laverty; Alice Murphy (1-0), Ashlene McCann, Claire Ogle (0-1); Maeve McKearney (1-0), Nina Murphy (1-5, 1 free), Michelle Clancy. Sub used: Shaheen Brady. Other Subs: Kerry Conroy, Catherine Daly, Ellie McCance and Mairead Mitchell. Injured: Niamh Gillen and Susan McCann. Ceann Ban, Kilmore, Moy Tel: 028 38 891691 Cookstown Fr Rocks Comhghairdeas ar an bua iontach! The Fr Rocks senior team came of age at Fr Peter Campbell Park Coalisland on Friday night. Cookstown caused the shock of the WJ Dolan championship first round with a dynamic victory over Ardboe. The rocks were written off by most pundit's prior to throw in, but reared on underage success over the past number of years they relished the challenge. Cookstown played some swashbuckling, cavalier style football in the opening half. They were dominant throughout the pitch. Owen Mulligan got them level with a free kick after five minutes. A wonder score with the outside of the boot from Christopher Eastwood put them ahead. Free Kicks from Martin Murray, Christopher Eastwood, and a fantastic solo effort from Raymond Mulgrew, left them in a dominant position at half time. Cookstown led 0-7 to 0-4. Playing into a stiff breeze the second half presented a new challenge. Ardboe had come into the game and a Gavin Wylie goal put them ahead. The introduction of John Gilmore had revitalised the Cookstown attack. Mid way through the second half he proved to be a match winner, collecting a high ball over the head of the full back he turned and crashed an unstoppable shot to the net, minutes later he sent a stunning effort over the bar from an impossible angle. The plucky Ardboe side came fighting back ensuring that the game would go to the death. Trailing by two points with a minute to go the Cookstown challenge looked finished, but Owen Mulligan stepped up to the mark. Latching on to a Gilmore ‚Äòflick on', he finished into the bottom corner, sending the crowd in the stands into raptures. The final whistle blew a minute later signalling scenes of joy amongst the Cookstown team, management and support, and the rattle of drums could be heard throughout the county!. Cookstown had some great performances all over the pitch, Paul MuGurk was like a rock in defence, and Mulligan, Gilmore and Mulgrew proved that Cookstown have the class to win big games. Visit the club website for all news >from within the club and match reports Fianna Notes Tyrone SFC 1st Round Coalisland made the short trip to Edendork on a Saturday evening and lightened up the wintry evening with some scintillating football. Loughmacrory drew first blood though with a point after 6 minutes but P.Early restored parity 2 minutes later with a free. Loughmacrory got their noses in front again before Marty Early struck the first major of the evening. Damian Jordan solid at No.6 ventured up field to strike a sweet point with his trusted left boot. The Early brothers combined to great effect before the half time whistle to grab a goal a piece and send the Fianna in at the interval 3.05 to 0.05 to the good. The second half started similar to the end of the first half with another Coalisland goal from M. Early and a P. Kane point. Loughmacrory responded from a free but received another sucker punch when they lost their full forward to a straight red card. Paddy Early had the chance to add to his impressive tally when presented with a 'sitter' but miscued and Loughmacrory breathed a sigh of relief. They then went on to add their final point of the evening before Phillip and Brian Toner completed the Fianna scoring with a point each. FT: Fianna 4-10 Loughmacrory 0-07 Next up for the seniors an reserves are Dromore in Fr Peter Campbell Park on Sunday. Youth Notes The 27th Annual Crawford Cup competition took place last Sunday.
