Tyrone do double over Armagh
May 21, 2001
Tyrone.......1-9
Armagh...0-11
A second half goal from Barry Mulligan enabled Tyrone to pip Armagh in this Ulster Minor Football Championship quarter-final at Clones (May 20).
With forwards Ryan Hamill, Brian Mallon and Michael McNamee in impressive form, Armagh shaded the first half exchanges to lead by 0-7 to 0-6 at the break. Tyrone made a blistering start to the second half, scoring 1-2 in the space of five minutes.
Mulligan added a point in the fifth minute which saw Tyrone turn their one point half-time deficit into a four-point lead. However, Armagh were far from finished as they hit back with points from Barry Toner (two) and Hamill to reduce the gap to the minimum.
But despite all their pressure, Armagh could not force their way back onto level terms and it was Tyrone who advanced.
