Loch Mhic Ruairi
With the football action over for the year attention now turns to the boardroom and the club hosts the Annual General Meeting in the new premises on Sunday 14 Dec. 2008 at 6.00pm. 2008 has been a milestone year for the club with the opening of the new pitch and clubrooms and hopefully these will serve the people of Loughmacrory well for many years to come. But the building of these facilities is not the end in itself and the work needs to continue to ensure that the facilities, excellent as they may be, are fully utilised for the benefit of our members. So if you think you have anything to offer come along to the AGM to hear the reports of the activities of the year past and to give your ideas for the future. New faces, fresh ideas and extra hands and are always welcome.
This is the fortieth anniversary of the founding of the Scor competitions and Scor sinsear will be held after Christmas. Anyone who would be willing to take part or to help out in any way with preparations please let Martin Donaghy know.

They were thrown a lifeline when Brian McCann scored a suburb goal and followed it up with a point at the beginning of the second half to leave just 2 points between them. Trillick made history last Saturday evening when they lifted the Ulster Intermediate title at the expense of Greenlough at a cold and foggy Athletic Grounds Armagh. It has been over 30 years since Trillick last contested an Ulster Final but on this occasion the Reds emerged victorious. Trillick were made to work hard for their victory and a point from Denis Connolly in the 23rd minute proved to be the decisive score. Congratulations to both the players and management on their hard work and commitment all year you have done the Club and Parish proud. An Mhaigh T'r na nÓg G.A.C. Notes
(week commencing 01/12/08)
Senior ACL Division 2
An Mhaigh 3-7
An Ghoirtin 0-8
An Mhaigh senior footballers are just one victory away from winning this year's Tyrone All-County League Division Two title after overcoming Gortin's gutsy challenge at a frosty Pairc Th'r na nÓg, last Sunday.
This was Moy's eleventh successive win in league competition and sees Mattie McGleenan's men move to the top of the division two table for the first time this season, leapfrogging long-time leaders Clann na nGael. It also sets up a final game showdown at home to newly crowned Ulster Club champions Trillick, and a repeat of this year's Intermediate Championship decider which Moy lost in such agonising fashion.
That, however, is for another day. Getting back to last weekend's encounter, a sizeable band of sky blue followers turned up again on a bright but bitterly cold day to witness Moy's penultimate league game. Gortin struck first blood after only one minute of play, but two Sean Cavanagh points and Tommy McNicholl's first of the season put the home team 0-3 to 0-1 ahead at the end of a rather lethargic opening quarter.
Niall Conlon finally put some daylight between the sides after 16 minutes when he fisted a high cross from Sean Cavanagh to the net. Gortin were not for rolling over, though, and they responded with a couple of well taken points. Their comeback was halted six minutes before the break as Philip Jordan's pinpoint pass put Colm Cavanagh through for a second Moy goal. Philly could have had a goal himself just seconds later, but his shot was brilliantly saved by the Gortin netminder. Half-Time Score: An Mhaigh 2-3 Gortin 0-3.
The T'r na nÓgs continued to pile on the pressure after the restart with early points from Sean Cavanagh (free) and Ryan O'Neill, who also had a shot which cannoned off the crossbar. Some solid defending by Brendan Kelly and company prevented any further prospects of a Gortin fightback and, in the 39th minute, a goal from the penalty spot by second half substitute Ryan Mellon more or less killed this game off as a contest. Ryan's perfect spot-kick had come about after Colm Cavanagh was fouled inside the large square. It also increased Moy's advantage to ten points.
To their credit, Gortin continued to play with considerable pride and outscored the title challengers 0-4 to 0-2 during the remainder of this match. With team captain Sean Cavanagh among those withdrawn from the action early, it was left to minor player Peter Mallon and substitute Kris Kavanagh to keep Moy's challenge ticking over on the scoreboard. An Mhaigh won in the end by double scores (3-7 to 0-8) but also struck twice as many wides as the opposition, as well as dropping eight balls short into the goalkeeper's hands.
So, all in all, another satisfactory result for the Moy men who have shown great character to bounce back from that harrowing Intermediate Championship Final defeat at the hands of Trillick in October. A big challenge now lies in wait for our team as Trillick once again stand in the way of the Moy and some precious silverware. It will be another massive game, and I have no doubt that our players and management will be up for this challenge.
Team & Scorers: Barry Gribbin; Brendan Kelly, Francie McQuade, Mark Donnelly; Padraig Laverty, Tommy McNicholl (0-1), Mark Jordan; Niall Conlon (1-0) and Philip Jordan; Colm Jordan, Karol McQuade, Peter Mallon (0-1); Ryan O'Neill (0-1), Sean Cavanagh (capt, 0-3, 2 frees), Colm Cavanagh (1-0).
Subs used: Ryan Mellon (half-time, 1-0, 1 pen), Kris Kavanagh (37 mins, 0-1), Adam Currie (47 mins), Ciaran Conroy (48 mins) and Conall Duffy (53 mins). Other Subs: John Harvey, Adrian Jordan, Philip McQuade and Adrian O'Neill.
League Record: Played 14, Won 12, Drawn 0, Lost 2, Points 24. The Moy's final fixture this season will be at home to newly crowned Ulster Club champions Trillick on a date to be confirmed. A victory in this match would see Moy win the Division Two league crown and gain promotion back to the senior ranks.
Youth Presentation
This year's An Mhaigh G.A.C. Youth Presentation Night, for each of our underage boys and girls teams, will be held in the Moy Parochial Hall on Friday 12th December at 7.30pm. Special guests will be our very own All-Ireland winning heroes from the Moy who will present the various awards. Everyone is welcome to come along and show their support for the youth of our club. Free admission.
Centenary Book
Our club's Centenary Book, documenting over 100 years of gaelic games and culture in Moy and the parish of Clonfeacle, is soon to be unveiled. Copies will be going on general sale in a very short period of time and should prove to be the perfect Christmas present.
This 600 page plus publication, which has culminated in many months of research and hard work, tells the story of our club's proud history and features names and pictures of countless people who have contributed to the success story that has been An Mhaigh T'r na nÓg G.A.C. since 1908.
Books which are pre-ordered will have the signatures of Moy's four All-Ireland winning stars. You can pre-order a copy by contacting club officials Mary Daly, Kevin Mallon or any member of the executive committee.
Keep watching this space for further details!
Centenary DVD
The special commemorative dvd of our club history, shown for the first time at our recent gala night, has been proving a big hit with members of An Mhaigh G.A.C. since it went on general sale last week. Copies of this excellent dvd, compiled by Simon Brady and Mary Daly, can be obtained by contacting either Frankie Duffy or Simon Brady. The cost per dvd is £10.
Commemorative Crystal Piece
Meanwhile, anyone who would like to order a miniature replica version of the specially commissioned crystal piece auctioned at our recent Gala Night should get in contact with either Mary Daly or Simon Brady as soon as possible. This beautifully crafted crystal football and bridge also features our club name and crest.
Sympathy
The officers, players and members of An Mhaigh T'r na nÓg G.A.C. deeply regret the death last week of Mr Sean Regan, brother of Jim and uncle of our underage playing members Mark and Kathryn. To them and the entire Regan family circle, we at the club extend our sincerest sympathy.
Unsung Hero of the Month - Mary Daly
Congratulations to An Runai Mary Daly who is our club's Unsung Hero for the month of December. Mary is of course one of the Moy's leading GAA figures and well known for her long and outstanding service to the club. Everyone knows of the sterling work that Mary does as Secretary but it is the many things that she often does beyond the call of duty that saw her nominated for this month's accolade.
Just last Sunday, she went through her normal routine at Moy's home league game against Gortin, collecting money at the gate prior to the match and then heading straight for the clubrooms just before half-time to prepare tea and refreshments for the officials and opposition. It is unselfish acts like these that set people like Mary Daly apart in our Association and I could list many, many other tasks carried out on a regular basis by this amazing club official that rarely get acknowledged. She is not one to hog the limelight but it is important now and again to thank Mary for all that she does.
If you would like to nominate anyone for our club's Unsung Hero of the Month, please contact myself or any member of the club committee. Please state the name of the person who you wish to nominate and the reason for your choice. This person should be someone who is quietly working behind the scenes of our club or who has done something noteworthy outside of the public eye.

Cookstown Fr Rocks
Fr Rocks were beaten in a relegation playoff by Donaghmore on Sunday past. Cookstown started the game in superb form and should have had the game won in the opening twenty minutes, however a series of missed opportunities as well as a disallowed goal meant that Donaghmore were still in the hunt as the second half approached. The turning point in the game arrived early in the second half when the Rocks were reduced to fourteen men. Gary Fitzpatrick was sent off and after this Cookstown were always up against it. Despite being a man down Fr Rocks did create a number of chances and when Owen Mulligan hit the crossbar in the fiftieth minutes it was clear that their luck was out. Seconds later Donaghmore were two points ahead and won the game on a final scoreline of 0-5 to 0-8. The team lined out as follows; D McGuckin, S Monaghan, P McGurk, B Kelly, P Kelly, B Hughes, G Fitzpatrick, B O'Neill, C Mullan (0-2), R Mulgrew, O Mulligan (0-1), M Murray, J Quinn (0-1), R Pickering (0-1), B Mulligan. Subs: M Hughes, B Mulligan, C O'Hare. The team will hope to regroup over the winter months and launch a bid for the Intermediate championships in both Tyrone and Ulster next year.
Lotto
This week's lotto numbers were 2, 9, 14, 20. There was no jackpot winner and three match three winners who receive £35. Next weeks prize is £3700.
Club Mass
The club would like to express thanks to Fr Tremere for the club mass last Friday evening.

Ardboe
Ardboe 1-10 Coalisland Fianna 1-12 O'Neill Park Dungannon was the scene of a thrilling encounter between two very able and very committed sides. Ardboe despite fielding a fairly young side took the game to their more illustrious opponents right from the throw in and despite going 2 points behind after 5 minutes, never allowed themselves to be overawed by what was on paper a star studded Coalisland side who were going for yet another under 21 title having won it the previous year. Ardboe clawed back to leave it level after 15 minutes of the first half and indeed went on to take the lead by a point 0-5 to 0-4 as the half time whistle blew. The second half was as tight the first and no quarter was asked for or given for the remaining 30 minutes. Ardboe's defensive unit gave an awesome display and restricted Coalisland to very few chances. With the game level with 2 minutes to go, Coalisland were awarded a simple free on the Ardboe 14 yard line and duly converted to give them a 1 point lead. However Ardboe rallied and were themselves awarded a free about 40 yards from goal. Freetaker Nishy O'Neill bravely held his nerve to convert the free to send the match into extra time.
The first period of extra time was dominated on the scoreboard by Coalisland who led by 2 points after the first period. The second half of extra time was a very intense affair and Ardboe looked to have won the match with a well taken goal by minor player Sean Hagan with only a minute remaining. However disaster struck in the closing seconds of the game when a speculative ball was sent into the Ardboe square and Coalisland player who appeared to be in the square, added to it to send it the net and give Coalisland a lead that20they couldn't be overhauled as time was up. This game was described by many of as one of the best games of football ever played in O'Neill Park. As well as being one of the best, then it certainly was one of the most cruel results as this was a game that in fairness Ardboe did not deserve to lose, having dominated proceedings throughout, executing some fine scores and leading into the last few minutes of the game. Great credit must go to the players who simply gave everything on the day and who refused to lie down in the face of a more experienced Coalisland side. Gary Mallaghan did well in goals and was only beaten once in the 80 minutes. The entire defence of Ryan Coleman, Ciaran Coney, Mark Quinn, Tomas Wylie, Gavin Teague
and Shea Quinn were outstanding restricting a very potent attack to only a limited scoreline over the 80 minutes. Matthew Brady tried hard at midfield and Martin Mc Keown really took the game to Coalisland at every opportunity, surging through time after time.Up front Joe Coyle, Sean Hagan and Eugene Martin worked tirelessly in the half forward line with Joe contributing a vital score and Sean scoring a goal that could and should have been a worthy winner. At full forward Shea Mc Guigan gave everything despite having only arri ved back form holiday in the morning. Nishy O'Neill and Anthony Devlin stood up tall and got very involved and contributed the bulk of the scores, with Nishy's pressure kick on the stroke of full time being responsible for taking the game to extra time. This is a game that will live long in the memory with the memories being bitter sweet. Truthfully, Ardboe deserved more from the game but the players can be proud of the effort they put in and hopefully this display augurs well for the future.
