New Tyrone joint-manager Fergal Logan says it’s not going to be easy to follow Mickey Harte’s act after 18 years as Red Hands boss.

Harte led his native county to three All-Ireland titles during his reign, including an inaugural Sam Maguire Cup triumph in 2003, and is considered to be one of the greatest managers in GAA history.

November saw him stepping down as Tyrone manager and in the weeks that followed Logan and Brian Dooher were appointed as new joint-managers, confirming a new era in the O’Neill County.

Speaking on RTE Radio 1’s Saturday Sport programme this afternoon, Logan described the service that his predecessor gave Tyrone as “outstanding”.

"Obviously, Mickey has an outstanding record and gave outstanding service to Tyrone," said Logan, who guided Tyrone to All-Ireland U21 success in 2015 alongside Dooher.

"It's never going to be easy. Let's just hope it all works out going into the future.

"But in one sense, there was always going to be a time when things had to move on. That's where we find ourselves."

Looking to the season ahead and trying to close the gap on six-in-a-row champions Dublin, he added:

"Tyrone would always back themselves against anybody. Let's open it by saying that. Going forward from that, you'd have to say that the Dubs seem to be operating at a different level at the moment.

"Then, there probably are a posse of chasers and I think we're in that posse of four or five chasers. We just have to knuckle down here and see if we can bridge the gap."
