McKenna "a breath of fresh air" in the game, says Clarke

Tyrone's Conor McKenna chases down Donegal's Ryan McHugh

Former Down star Marty Clarke says he hasn’t been all that surprised by the immediate impact Conor McKenna has made with Tyrone.

Since returning home from Australia last month, McKenna has struck 3-4 in his first two senior games for the Red Hands, putting forth a ‘Man of the Match’ display in their crucial Division 1 victory over Mayo in Castlebar last Sunday.

Like McKenna, Clarke also had a spell in the AFL before deciding to return home and play with his county and has described the 24-year-old as “a breath of fresh air” to the game.

"I would know Conor quite well and I'm not surprised with the impact he has made so far with Tyrone,” Clarke told RTE Sport.

"It's hard to explain but he's got an energy about him. He's positive, he's happy-go-lucky and he plays the game that way. He doesn't play with any fear. He will take on difficult passes with the outside of his boot and go for goal at any opportunity.

"In an era in which it's predictable the way players use the ball, Conor is definitely a breath of fresh air."
