"If he was to make the first 15, I think that would be a massive achievement"

Conor McKenna in the colours of Tyrone

Tyrone legend Peter Canavan reckons it will take Conor McKenna time to get back up to the speed of the inter-county game.

McKenna announced his retirement from the AFL last month after spending six years with Essendon FC and is now back training with Tyrone ahead of the 2020 inter-county season’s resumption.

Two-time All-Ireland winner Canavan says he’s excited about the potential the 24-year-old can bring to Mickey Harte’s squad.

"He's back at training and the vibe is that he's moving okay," he is quoted saying by GAA.ie.

"But the length of time he's been out, it's going to take him a while to get up to the speed of the game, to get used to playing with the round ball again.

"It's the one good news story in Tyrone, when you consider Cathal McShane is out, the loss of Colm Cavanagh.

"Conor was a brilliant underage player for Tyrone, really exciting. So, he's back, he's training with the team, but I wouldn't be expecting too much of him.

"If he was to make the first 15, I think that would be a massive achievement for someone who has played no club football."
