Galway champions Loughrea are expected to try and get Cullen Killeen’s red card overturned ahead of next month’s All-Ireland club senior hurling championship final.
The midfielder was given his marching orders by referee Johnny Murphy with less than two minutes to go in this afternoon’s semi-final victory over Slaughtneil.
Tommy Kelly’s men were leading by 2-22 to 0-14 at Parnell Park when Killeen’s careless pull on Brendan Rogers was spotted by Murphy and the Limerick official issued the Loughrea player, who had just been named ‘Man of the Match’ by TG4, a straight red card.
As a result, Killeen now stands suspended for what is his club’s first All-Ireland senior final in 19 years where they’ll be facing Ballygunner at Croke Park in January.
