Tonight sees the documentary ‘Passing It On: Ballymun Kickhams’ airing for the first time on national television.

The documentary, which was previously shown on eirSport, takes a look at how former Dublin star Paddy Christie helped to transform lives around Ballymun through his work with the local Kickhams club.

In 1996, Christie took over the club’s U10 team with its members including Philly McMahon, Alan Hubbard and Davy Byrne – all three have gone on to achieve success huge with Dublin – while Dean Rock, John Small and James McCarthy are just a couple more notable names that still represent the club today.

‘Passing It On’ traces the Ballymun Kickhams’ history, its role in the community and looks at how far the club has come over the past two decades, having won the Leinster club SFC in 2012.

As the documentary’s synopsis states: "This is the story of how a north Dublin GAA club provided a focal point for local youth in times of economic and social hardship and how it came to embody the indomitable spirit of the community it served."

Passing It On: Ballymun Kickhams airs on RTE One on Thursday at 10.10pm.
