Tipperary hurling star Seamus Kennedy will miss the remainder of the season after suffering a cruciate ligament injury.

The two-time All-Ireland SHC winner sustained the dreaded injury during Tipp’s Allianz Hurling League Round 4 loss to Limerick last Saturday week at SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh. The news is also a big blow to his clubs St Mary’s and Clonmel Commercials (football).

A statement released by Tipperary GAA said: "As a result of an injury sustained in the Allianz Hurling league game against Limerick. Tipperary GAA can confirm that Seamus Kennedy suffered an ACL rupture that will now require reconstructive surgery followed by a period of rehabilitation.

“Tipperary GAA, the Tipperary Senior Hurling management and players wish Seamus well in his recovery and look forward to his return to the playing fields in the not too distant future."
