The Clare senior hurling championship is down to its last four teams after Clonlara and Crusheen secured quarter-final victories on Sunday.
Colm O’Meara’s first-half goal proved the difference as Clonlara defeated Eire Og Ennis by 1-14 to 0-14 at Cusack Park.
The game was 14 minutes old when midfielder O’Meara drove in the victors’ goal, as they went in at the break leading 1-6 to 0-7, and the two-time champions were able to see off their Ennis counterparts after an airtight second-half battle.
Earlier in the day, Crusheen made their goals count in a 3-7 to 1-7 win over Newmarket on Fergus that puts their name in the hat for tomorrow evening’s semi-final draw.
On Saturday, a superb personally tally of 3-12 from Mark Rodgers inspired Scariff to a 3-19 to 1-22 victory over Clooney-Quin, while the other last eight clash saw Feakle come out on top against Kilmaley (1-18 to 2-13).
Meanwhile, Clarecastle will play their hurling in the intermediate ranks next season after falling to a 1-16 to 1-13 defeat at the hands of O’Callaghan Mills earlier today, ending the 12-time champions’ 91-year stay in the topflight of senior hurling the Banner County.
