David Clifford is in line to captain the Kerry footballers next season.

The former minor sensation was the scoring star of East Kerry's Kerry SFC success, shooting 1-3 in yesterday's 2-14 to 1-7 county final victory over four-in-a-row chasing Dr Crokes. As county champions, the divisional outfit have the right to pick the Kerry captain and the honour will fall to either Clifford or Jack Sherwood in 2020. Paul Murphy may also come into the reckoning following Rathmore's relegation from the senior ranks, which will see them return to the East Kerry amalgamation next year.

Clifford will turn 21 in January and already carries a lot of responsibility on his young shoulders. Whether East Kerry feel he's up to task of shouldering even greater responsibility with Kerry remains to be seen.
