Keating explains goalkeeper position

June 22, 2007
Tipperary manager Babs Keating has clarified his stance on selecting Gerry Kennedy in goal ahead of veteran custodian Brendan Cummins. The move caused widespread shock and no end of rumours but the Premier County boss says it was simply a matter of choosing between two talented netminders: "We are lucky to have two good goalies in Brendan and Gerry. We felt that Gerry was entitled to a break. He had been hurling well and we decided to give him his chance. "This is a new team and Gerry Kennedy is part of that set-up. No disrespect to Brendan Cummins - he has given us great service. "It was a difficult one for me, with Brendan coming from my own club." Ironically, Cummins is now understood to be injured.
