Last year is history, Sheedy insists

Both Tipperary and Cork will be looking for that vital win on Sunday.
Liam Sheedy insists that Tipperary have gotten over the disappointment of last year's All-Ireland final loss to Kilkenny as they prepare for Sunday's Munster SHC showdown with Cork.

And he says he has taken a number of positives from the NHL campaign, despite Tipp's failure to reach the final.

"We have to be honest and admit that after losing an All-Ireland final there is a period where you have to start building yourself up again, you've got to reach the point where you say: when is this thing starting again," the Premier County boss said.

"We had a few days away, lying in the sand (on the team holiday), but for us 2009 is over. Last year we came up short, we've got to think, 'Right, what got us to that final?' It's really about trying to build those blocks right through this season again.

"We were slower this year in the league, didn't have the same impetus, we had a number of injuries; the positive was that we got to see an awful lot of players, and from that point of view the league was very good to us.

"And we were unfortunate in the league - Waterford and Cork, we could have won either of those matches, found ourselves back in a league final again. But for us now, I do think 2009 is just the previous season, everything since January is built for 2010."

The Portroe man is relishing Sunday's meeting with a team he has masterminded championship victories over in each of the past two years.

"It's a brilliant championship, that why we're all in it - the buzz you get preparing for Munster championship, going down to a place like Pairc Ui Chaoimh, stands full, sea of colour everywhere, two fabulous teams out on the pitch," he added.

"If we don't play to our potential we won't win, it really is that simple. Whoever wins it, it's going to be a long journey."
