Holycross/Ballycahill booked their place in the knockout stages of the Tipperary senior hurling championship after defeating Upperchurch/Drombane by 1-28 to 0-20 yesterday.

Darragh Woods struck the game’s only goal in the second-half as Holycross/Ballycahill went on to win out by double figures and condemn their opponents to the relegation playoffs.

In Templederry, Thurles Sarsfields made it three wins from three by seeing off Kilruane MacDonaghs on a 2-27 to 2-18 scoreline yesterday evening to move into the quarter-finals.

Paddy Creedon’s goal 10 minutes before half-time helped Sars to hold a 1-14 to 0-9 when the teams went in and they’d net again late on via Darragh Stakelum to ensure the win.

Elsewhere in the Dan Breen Cup race, Dara O’Dwyer netted twice in the second-half as Kiladangan sealed their place in the knockouts with a 2-23 to 1-23 win against Drom-Inch, while Cashel King Cormacs secured their third win on the bounce by seeing off Roscrea (1-30 to 3-21).

This afternoon’s third round games are set to see JK Brackens up against Mullinahone in Cashel (3pm) and Nenagh Éire Óg playing Toomevara in Cloughjordan (3pm), with the 3.30pm fixtures seeing Clonoulty/Rossmore face Loughmore/Castleiney in Holycross and Borrisileigh take on Moycarkey-Borris in The Ragg.
