What a coincidence!
Last Sunday, Clonoulty-Rossmore were crowned Tipperary senior hurling champions for the first time since 1997 after beating favourites Nenagh Eire Og by 0-23 to 2-13 at Semple Stadium. Afterwards, the Dan Breen Cup was presented to Clonoulty-Rossmore captain and centre back John O'Keeffe whose family home was a safe house for Breen and other republicans during the War of Independence. Breen was one of the most wanted men in Ireland at the time, but eluded the British and lived to the age of 75.
Thanks to former Tipperary All-Ireland winner Timmy Hammersley, who top-scored in last Sunday's final with 0-12, for this nugget of information.
