Two close semi-finals
September 15, 2006
The 2006 Sligo senior football championship final will be between Curry and Bunninadden, who had to dig deep to win their respective semi-finals.
Both teams enjoyed narrow victories at Markievicz Park last weekend to book their places in the decider.
Both semi-finals were staged at the county grounds on Sunday September 10. 2000 champions Bunninadden advanced to a first final appearance in six years by virtue of a 0-10 to 0-9 victory over Eastern Harps, who had eight wides in the second half.
Curry defeat St Mary's by 1-11 to 1-8. The South Sligo side led by six points at the break but St Mary's battled back to level matters at 1-8 apiece with ten minutes remaining. Adrian Marren had the 'final say' with three excellent points from play, while goalkeeper Jeffrey Durcan prevented a replay with an injury-time save to deny Johnny Lynch.
Curry last won the Owen B. Hunt Cup in 2003.
