Roscommon GAA awards night details

November 04, 2010
The Roscommon GAA Supporters' Club will hold its annual awards ceremony at the Abbey Hotel in Roscommon town at 8pm tomorrow (Friday).

The gala evening will see 17 separate awards handed out, including the Hall of Fame gong which will go this year to John Joe Nerney, who will receive the Hall of Fame shield in a special presentation.

The nominations for the Roscommon Senior Footballer of the Year are Donal Shine, Cathal Cregg and Geoffrey Claffey.

Shine, regarded as unfortunate to miss out on an overall GAA All-Star nomination following a fine year in the Roscommon colours, is bidding to add the senior award to the U21 Footballer of the Year accolade which has already been conferred upon him. He will receive that award during Friday's ceremony.

Other winners include Michael Holland of the St Croan's club (Minor Footballer of the Year), Niall Daly of Padraig Pearses (County Junior Footballer of the Year), Colm Moran from Athleague (County Senior Hurler) and Niall Kilroy of Tremane (County U21 Hurler).

The winner of the Club Footballer of the Year award will be announced on the night, with the shortlist consisting of Fintan Cregg (Elphin), Ger Heneghan (Castlerea St Kevin's) and Frankie Dolan (St Brigid's).

The shortlist for the Roscommon Senior Ladies Footballer of the Year is made up of Louise Tully (Kilglass Gaels), Michelle Walsh (St Brigid's) and Laura Sharkey of Roscommon Gaels.
