Last year’s champions Strokestown bowed out of the Roscommon senior football championship on Sunday after falling to a heavy 1-19 to 1-7 defeat at the hands of Oran.
Playing at their home venue, it was the holders that edged a 1-6 to 0-8 lead at the end of the first-half thanks to Shane McGinley’s goal on 20 minutes.
However, Charlie Carthy netted Oran’s goal midway through the second period and points from Mark Gunning, Darragh Walsh and Carthy (free) would steer them eight clear.
It proved too much of a mountain for Strokestown to try and scale as they made their exit prior to the competition’s quarter-final stage.
Elsewhere, Clann nan Gael picked their second win on the bounce on a 3-14 to 1-8 score-line against Tulsk Lord Edwards, which means themselves and Oran now advance to the last eight in the Fahey Cup race.
