Intermediate Cup:

Our Intermediate team were out on Sunday evening playing Kinnitty in the Intermediate Cup and won the game with a convincing performance.

Isabella Gleeson opened the scorebook with a point from play for the K/K side that was quickly followed with a point from Emer Bracken. Kinnitty responded with two points of their own. Midfielder Sarah Costello did some savage work in the middle of the pitch and got the ball out to Isabella Gleeson who scored her second point. Éadaoin Kilmartin gained possession of the ball and hit it to Lucy Lowry on the wing, but the Kinnitty defenders managed to win the ball back and clear it. Not to be denied, the K/K forwards went forward again, this time with Emer Bracken sending the ball sailing over the bar.

The K/K forwards began to dominate proceedings towards the end of the first half with Lucy Lowry scoring two points, Emer Bracken scoring two goals and Isabella Gleeson a goal. The K/K half backline of Caoimhe Rigney, Úna Kilmartin and Brianna Commins were crucial in stopping any Kinnitty attacks and feeding the ball back into the forward lines. Full back Catherine Kenna made a savage clearance after a Kinnitty free, catching the ball just in front of the goals and hitting it straight back out. Éadaoin Kilmartin was hard at work at centre forward and she hit a ball to Isabella Gleeson who passed it to Sarah Costello who sent it into the back of the net. The half finished with points from Emer Bracken and Anna Doherty leaving the scoreline 4-08 to 0-03.

The second half started with two quick points from Lucy Lowry that was countered by a point from Kinnitty. The Kinnitty team weren’t to be written off however as halfway during the second half, they broke through K/K defences and goalie Eimear Rigney was forced to make a great save. A couple of minutes later, the Kinnitty goal came. Sarah Costello gained possession of the ball at the other end of the pitch and made a run for the Kinnitty goals and blasted it into the back of the net.

Corner backs Sarah Meacle and Eva Bracken were kept busy in the closing stages of the game and made several blocks and clearances. After Emer Bracken and Isabella Gleeson scored another point each, the game finished up 5-12 to 1-05.
