Offaly's Cathal Donoghue will be playing his club football with his famous cousin Matthew Tierney this year after transferring from Kilcormac/Killoughey to Oughterard.

The cousins won the Sigerson Cup together with University of Galway this time last year and will now also be on the same team at club level. Donoghue, who hasn't featured for Offaly under Liam Kearns yet, was man of the match in the 2021 All-Ireland U20FC final win over Roscommon and also deputised as captain for the injured Kieran Dolan.

Hurling is the number one game in Kilcormac/Killoughey who surprisingly lost last year's Offaly JFC 'A' final to Ballinagar, and this may have prompted Donoghue's decision to move across the Shannon. Ironically, Matthew Tierney also won an All-Ireland U20FC medal in 2020 and scored the winning penalty in Galway's dramatic All-Ireland SFC quarter-final win over Armagh last summer.
