Under 14B Shield Final
There was great anticipation and excitement last week in the build up to the Under 14B Shield Final where our girls took on Shinrone. Shinrone had beaten our girls earlier in the group stages although we had some girls missing so it was always going to be an intriguing match.
When the match did start it took some time for the first score but after 7 minutes a free from Aoife Burke gave us the opening score of the game but it wasn't long before Shinrone equalised. A minute later Roisin Phelan hit a fantastic point from a narrow angle to restore our lead. Shinrone equalised and minutes afterwards a speculative shot in nestled in the back of our net. Credit to our girls, they didn't panic and hit 4 points without reply with Annie Rose Hogan hitting 2 points and Aoife Burke converting 2 frees to leave us winning by a point at half time.
Shinrone got off to a dream start in the second half when a goal mouth scramble resulted in the ball coming out to Siobhan Ryan who fired the ball into our net. Again our girls responded well with Roisin Phelan hitting over a point but Shinrone quickly replied to restore their two point advantage. Two minutes later however our girls got a real shot in the arm when Annie Rose Hogan shot the ball to the net and quickly followed it with a point. The game was now in the melting pot and the teams were matching each other puck for puck and a brace of Shinrone points levelled the scores. At this stage and with the clock ticking down the thought of a draw started to come into the thoughts of the supporters of both teams as they cheered and encouraged their girls.
Our girls pushed forward and a point from Roisin Phelan restored our lead and less than a minute after a goal from Emer Maher put some breathing space between the teams. The girls continued to pour forward and another point from Aoife Burke was greeted with great cheers by the home supporters and those cheers became wilder when Annie Rose Hogan got her second goal of the game to put the game well and truly to bed. Shinrone did manage a late consolation point but when Simon Whelehan blew the final whistle it was time for the Naomh Brid celebrations to begin.
Huge congratulations to our girls and their coaches on a fantastic win on a scoreline of Naomh Brid 3-10, Shinrone 2-6
