Offaly Ladies GAA Notes

St, Rynagh's and Naomh Ciaran bow out of Leinster Championship.

Intermediate Club Championship
On Saturday last St, Rynagh's faced their toughest opponents to date when they took on Thomas Davis of Dublin in Banagher. St, Rynagh's was the first to get on the score board with a well taken point by Mairead Daly in the second minute. Thomas Davis equalized in the fourth minute with a point from player of the match Ciara McGuigan. Ciara was on target again for the Dublin girls on the eight minute when a free was awarded after a foul on Kate Fitzsimons to leave the score 0-02 to 0-01. Mairead Daly equalized for St, Rynagh's within a minute and by the thirteenth minute Linda Sullivan had the ball in the back of the Thomas Davis goal score 1-02 to 0-02. This was a very tight game up until this point and it was score for score, Thomas Davis put another point on the board on the fourteenth minute to leave the scoreboard reading St, Rynagh's 1-02 Thomas Davis 0-03. Just over half way through the first half, Thomas Davis scored their first goal from Sinead Deegan followed by a point from Kate Fitzsimons and by the thirtieth minute and half time Thomas Davis had another two points on the scoreboard thanks once again to Ciara McGuinan.

Half time score St, Rynagh's 1-03 Thomas Davis 1-06.

Mairead Daly and Linda Sullivan got the second half of to a great start with a series of points and took the lead after four minutes into the second half on a 1-07 to 1-06 scoreline, but within seconds Thomas Davis had equalized and went on the rampage, they widened the gap between the sides, St, Rynagh's in fairness gave it 110% a well taken point from Edel Flynn closed the gap somewhat and they were unlucky not to add two goals as Mairead Daly found herself straight through only two be fouled outside the penalty area which she converted adding another two points to the St, Rynagh's scoreline. At this stage the Thomas Davis girls had a player sin binned for continuous fouling. Unfortunately St, Rynagh's didn't use the extra player to their advantage and to be honest they looked tired. The game ended on a 3-13 to 1-11 scoreline Thomas Davis will contest their second Leinster final in as many years, in 2012 they won the Leinster Junior Title and went onto Claim the All Ireland Junior Club Title. We wish them and their opponents Miltown of Westmeath the best of luck in the Intermediate final on November 3rd.

Leinster Junior Club Championship semi-final.
Naomh Ciaran lost out to St, Helen's of Longford in the Junior semi-final which took place in Monaduff, Co, Longford on Saturday. Naomh Ciaran put in a great performance and led by a point at the interval. But unfortunately due to injuries on the day St, Helen's came away with the win on a 4-14 to 2-11 scoreline.

Sympathy.
We would like to offer our deepest sympathy to the Guinan Family, Ballylin, Ferbane, on the sudden death of their father Martin. Martin was a great GAA man and was President of Ferbane GAA. Martin's remains were accompanied to the Church on Sunday evening by Ferbane GAA and Naomh Ciaran Ladies who did a guard of honour. Martin was laid to rest on Monday morning after 11 o' clock mass to High Street, Cemetery. "Ar Dheis De Go Raibh A Ainm"
