Champions:  Doohamlet are 2018 Intermediate Champions after a real battle on heavy ground, Colin Walshe fisted over the winning point deep into three minutes of stoppage time.  This game was by no means a classic as Doohamlet hit numerous wides and made mistakes a plenty but for sheer grit and effort the players could not be faulted. 

Our victory was built on our defence who were outstanding throughout.  James Casey in goal was assured and commanding and our full back line was immense.  Jason McElroy and Gavin King gave a masterclass in tackling and turning over the opposition  numerous times with Martin Hughes solid at full back.  Our half back trio of Darren Connolly, Conor Marray and Damian Ward worked tirelessly with their forays forward and defending.  Jamie Walshe who received Man of the Match was a tower in midfield never stopped and put in a great shift nullifying their talisman and scored two excellent points.

Our forwards had to fight for every score and credit to the Seans defence who pressed our attackers in numbers, Barry McGinn and Barry McBennett were a constant threat with the youthful Hugh McGinn playing in his first final scoring a fine long range point.  Paul McArdle was our focal point at 14 and also worked hard alongside Niall Connolly.  This group of players should be so proud as they have now won 4 Intermediate titles since 2010 and also a double in 2015.

Great Credit to Manager Dessie McBennett, trainer Damian Feeney and our backroom team who have once again guided this team to senior ranks.  Great celebrations followed as the team and supporters arrived back in the village with hooting horns and Blue and Black colours in full flow.

Doohamlet now meet St Endas of Belfast in the Ulster Club Championship on Sunday 4th Nov with a 12.30 throwin.

A bus is being organised for supporters to travel to this game so anyone interested please give their name to Bernie @ 0868035929  before Friday 26th.  Cost will be €15.

 

Intermediate League:  Doohamlet play Aughnamullen at home in the Intermediate league semi-final on Sunday next.  Throwin  2.30pm
