meathforsam11 ah no, do you not remember ratoath beating the 'unbeatable' dunboyne team easily enough en route to the back to back minor championships. What a great bunch of lads!! Blue112 (Westmeath) - Posts: 24 - 25/06/2013 16:06:06 1415387 Link 0 |

HAVOC you are partially right , DLS were the whole of Navan , but with players from adjoining clubs like Bective et al supplying players to the team when they didn't field a team of their own . I recall a guy called Day Cahill coming on for DLS in a final and scoring a goal for DLS to win . Davy Cahill is from the well known Cahill family that plied their trade with Bective , and the now defunct Robins town GFC in the 70-80's and the early 90's .DLS were very dominant at minor level in the 70-80-90's for that fact . unfortunley south meath is where its at nowadays lads but it would be great to see a north meath team win. personally i would like to see some amalgimations like bective and dunderry to add a bit of stiff competition to it themadzerbyrne (Meath) - Posts: 85 - 26/06/2013 10:29:35 1415733 Link 0 |

Good man G time to go back to the tech. for geography lessons. Bective is part of the Navan parish that is why Davy played with the Salles Havoc (Meath) - Posts: 296 - 27/06/2013 09:02:15 1416472 Link 0 |

Ratoath could easily be going for 5 in a row this year. Unlucky to lose to Dunshaughlin in 2009 when they ran a straight knock out championship in March/April and kicked away the final to O Mahonys in 2010. kingofclubs (Meath) - Posts: 350 - 27/06/2013 11:47:41 1416614 Link 0 |

Very interesting to see all the minor winners. In the 70's Walterstown and Seneshalstown were combined and had very strong teams. They won in 1975 and were hot favorites to win again the following year but were surprisingly eaten by De La Salle in the 1976 final.Would be interesting to see some of teams from that era. noneutrals (Dublin) - Posts: 316 - 27/06/2013 12:43:37 1416674 Link 0 |

I don't think the Bective has moved since the 60's -80's and I am aware that it is part of the overall Navan parish. I was never too sharp on Geography anyway . But if I recall correctly , Bective GFC was in existence even back in the time of the DLS . but they didn't have minor teams so some guys went to other areas dependent on where the power was .The point I was trying top make is that at that time the DLS were able to call on a larger area than NOM currently do today .Thus they should have been called the UN instead of the DLS Chaisleain_Abu (Meath) - Posts: 220 - 27/06/2013 16:40:10 1416971 Link 0 |
