Any one hear of the new format being used for the hurling championships next year yet?

Assume it's the same. You can't change things without giving clubs notice.

How much notice do you need? Surely if changes were announced in January that should be sufficient.

If your changing structure that involves relegation of teams it needs a full season of notice. if not changing the number of teams in senior or intermediate then it can happen this year but that's changing for the sake of changing. that doesn't fix the issues. IMO

I would imagine this will be the case - no change of structure for this season but an announcement taking place about the restructure for 2025 onwards.

What that restructure is going to look like is anyone's guess.

Any championship changes would have to be from 2025 on.

Meath county board got caught out on this one a few years ago when they announced late in the year that several 2nd teams in the JFC were to be summarily relegated for the following season. Simonstown successfully appealed to Leinster council, who ruled that teams can't just be retrospectively relegated by vote.

It'll be interesting to see what proposals for restructuring (if any) come up.

Thomastown won the the All Ireland by beating Castlehaven by 16 points. The Kildalkey result doesn't look as bad now!

If the ambitions of Meath hurling is to accept a hammering because another club got hammered then may as well not enter a team in provincial.

Anyway, in more positive news hopefully, looks like the county have added a lot of new faces to the panel. Strong representation from senior b and intermediate clubs.

Which was reflected in the result

Ah let's be realistic here, Thomastown would beat the Meath hurlers never mind the kildalkey hurlers.
That's not a dig at Meath or kildalkey it's just an honest opinion.
We are at our lowest standard in this county for a long long time.
Hopefully someone can get things going at underage level and actually get to promote the best underage players to the senior team because it isn't happening at the minute.

this may or may not be true but your point re underage is correct. we do nothing to keep lads involved, apart from the lure of other sports there is very little to inspire to continue hurling. Look at the meath lgfa over the weekend, announcements of u14 to minor squads with management teams etc. where is the same for the hurlers. whos on underage teams, who is training them etc...let alone the problem of lack of gear....

Seems Wicklow have given a walkover this weekend.

Forum topics dominated by the footballers performances but great win for the hurlers at the weekend. I for one did not hold out much hope for the year ahead with so many opting out but brilliant to see a relatively young team get off to a flying start. Tougher games to come admittedly.

See what can be done with a good manager and coach, that's their standard but they are getting the most from the lads who are there. Great to see so many lads getting a chance. Who said burn the hurls? Burn the size 5's.

Great to see the hurlers win. Very similar to two years ago when we played a weakened Kildare in the first 2A game and got the win. We thought it would keep us up but Kildare got back to full strength and picked up some points later on. Meath got some awful hammerings two years ago, there could be some sticky games in the league starting away to Carlow, but Down and a struggling Kerry could be games to target. Kildare have lost a lot of players so might not pick up points this year. Would be great to be in Division 2 of the reformatted HL next year.

This year is kind of a nothing shot at the league as the restructing means Meath will be in Division 2 next year unless they make top 2. Giving as many players a run out is probably the target ahead of the championship and build for 2025.
Would be good to see more from Kildalkey in on the panel as county champions at all adult grades. They are a young team and only having one player on the panel after total dominance is not good for the county. Is there more due back?

Club is different to county. Kildalkey have a spread of excellent club players.
Brilliant win for Meath. It's a new generation of players coming through and they need time and support now.
