Junior A Championship 2022

(Oldest Posts First)

Junior A semis this weekend, 2 good games. 3 of the 4 teams have been relegated from Intermediate over the last 2 years, and last year's beaten junior finalists involved too - so good competitive action.

Castletown vs Syddan -12pm- Sun 02/10 @Drumcondrath: Great local derby here, the two parishes are combined at underage level so the fans will be up for it. Castletown have been a decent intermediate team for years but have struggled over the last 2 years or so. They seem to have found a bit of form this year again and have a couple of good young players that have been involved in Meath underage teams.

Syddan have responded well to the drop from Intermediate and are looking to get back first time of asking. Runners up in a tough group which involved the other two semi finalists. They were impressive against Dunsany but Balinlough brushed them aside. A good showing last time out against Kilbride who were the only team to take points of Castletown in the other group. I think Castletown might just have a little too much for them and will shade it. Castletown by 2

Balinlough v Dunsany - Sat 01/10 @Sean Newman Park, Bohermeen:
Dunsany have been knocking on the door for years and it just feels like they seem to always run into a team who are further along than them and looks like it might be the case here again. Ballinlough strolled through the group, which included a victory over their opponents here. Their only blip in the final game where they have already topped the group so assume they rested some players?

It's hard to look beyond Ballinlough and they'd have to be odds on favourites to win the competition outright at this stage. Dunsany had to work hard to get over Moylagh but they will need a huge improvement to reverse the result here again. Ballinlough by 5

Strong statement made by Dunsany today. Big difference between league stages and the knock out games.

Surely this will be Dunsanys year. Castletown wont be easily beaten but Dunsany should have too much pace and firepower.
What are peoples thoughts on Junior B? I think its Brigids to lose, theyve been the best team all year in Junior B and have already beaten Slane twice this year. Brigids to have too much all over the pitch.

Hopefully Dunsany get over the line, be well deserved. Brigids should win the Junior B but Slane are dogged and if it is tight I would not be surprised if they won.

Really interesting Junior A final, both teams deserve to be where they are and are peaking at the right stages of the championship. I just have a feeling Castletown will edge it, an up and coming team with some good young players and a few experienced players to match. Dunsany deserve their chance at intermediate and are more than good enough to win this. but think they'll fall just short again. Castletown by 3
