Retirements

(Oldest Posts First)

Both Sean Tobin and Graham Reilly have called time on their intercounty careers, thought GR had retired last year, however both these lads have given Meath football great service over many years. Cannot have been easy to turn up week in/out when county were going through difficult times. A great credit to both and wishing them well in the future.

Really dont get these "retirement statements".
Most of them are over estimating their positions in the public domain.
Most genuinely honest hard working footballers we ever had just never came back and weren't making "statements" and these guys had the medals to show.
I suppose it's the era we live in now,gaa players are "celebrities" first and footballers second.

No Graham was hoping to return, took a year out to build back up fitness. Didn't work. Best wishes to both. Excellent service to the cause.

I agree it is the era we live in, but doubt if these lads see themselves as celebrities, first and foremost they were footballers from a young age and both gave up large parts of social life to play for county, so if they get a few deserved "well done" then so what, they owe us nothing. Also it puts an end to speculation on why lads like them are no longer on panel. Slightly off topic I would like to see county teams giving injury updates on players, does not have to be over specific or intrusive, just lets supporters know why some players seem to slip off radar for periods of time.

He'd have put in the same effort as any other player.was id say on most panels game days as anyone.knocking the lad is pretty petty.

Agreed, its not down to how many games you started, Sean Tobin first played for Meath at U16 level, that is some commitment to the county. Lads who dont always get their game deserve just as much credit ( maybe even more, not easy to sit on bench after all their effort) as the regular starters.

Im pleased to go against the grain to announce some good new regarding the recent Spate of high profile Retirements in Meath

Royal Gaels Club legend Orlagh McLaughlin has recently announced her Retirement U Turn
to the Delight of myself personally and all of her clubmates.

Her return will provide a massive boost to the Royal County and Im sure will inspire a new generation of young driven players to push the boundaries and bring home some Silverware to Dunshaughlin .Hopefully this turn of events will also make some of the male counterparts think about performing their own retirement U Turns and Nip it in the bud!
