On a perfect day for football in a resplendent Walterstown venue, Trim threatened to run away with this game but due to some poor finishing and doughty Tones defensive work they could not pull clear and this led to a grandstand finish with both sets of supporters on tenterhooks to the final whistle.
Trim would not have been happy with a 0 03 to 1 03 lead at half time. Conor Mc Keever had made three fine saves in that first period to keep the Tones in contention.
Tones narrowed the gap to a point on numerous occasions during the second half but in spite of creating some good scoring chances they never gained parity. Two cards for the Trim men left them with 13 players and holding a slender one point lead as the game entered injury time.
Excitement reached fever pitch as Trim won and missed a penalty, and hit two wides while Tones also hit a wide before the referee, to the relief of the Trim supporters, finally called time to call to a close an epic encounter.
