SFC quarter final: 'Hill' points to steep for 'Seasiders'

A strong second half showing from Keegan Cup holders Summerhill proved too much for St. Colmcilles in this Senior Football Championship quarter final played in perfect conditions at a very well attended Lomans Park Trim.

Summerhill dominated the early exchanges and led 0-3 to 0-0 with points from Ben Moran, Padraig Geraghty and Kevin Ryan. The Cilles were back in the game when David Bell blasted to the Hill net. Bell and Ben Brennan added points as Mickey Conlon’s men took the lead. Summerhill hit back with eight unanswered points from Ryan (2), Liam Shaw (2), Eoghan Frayne, Conor Frayne and a two pointer from keeper Sean Muddiman to take control again. St. Colmcilles refused to buckle under the pressure. Kyle O’Brien reignited their challenge with a brilliant two pointer from the outside of the boot. Eoghan McCloghan got in on the two point act and with five minutes remaining in the half the lead was down to five. Before Patrick Coyle blew the half time whistle St. Colmcilles were on level terms thanks to two two pointers and a single from Brennan frees.

St. Colmcilles made a great start to the second half and were two up after fine efforts from keeper Andrew Beakey and half back Liam Stafford. That’s as good as it got for the team in sky blue. Summerhill upped the pace and workrate and in the space of 15 minutes they had a place in the last four booked. Eoghan Frayne kicked four points, Muddiman landed another two pointer, Adam McDonnell raised an orange flag before county man Frayne sent over a brace of two pointers and open up a 0-28 to 1-14 lead. ‘Hill’ captain Liam Shaw closed out proceeding with a brace.

The holders play Wolfe Tones in the semi final.
