Killyon 2-15 Blackhall Gaels 0-11

Killyon kept their hopes of a place in the Senior B Hurling Championship semi final alive with this win over Blackhall Gaels at Kiltale.

Adam Gannon opened the winners account after a slow start and by the end of the first quarter they were 0-3 to 0-2 in front thanks to a Dylan Duignan brace. The game took a turning point soon after when referee Brendan Byrne issued a red card to Blackhall defender Dan Carty. With that advantage Killyon added five points without reply from Shane Clarke, Justin Coyne, Duignan (2) and Gannon to take control. To their credit Blackhall Gaels kept battling and with Shane Whitty outstanding from placed balls they went to the half time huddle three in arrears 0-9 to 0-6. The county star accounted for all of the Gaels opening half tally and four out of five in the second period. 

Whitty had the teams level inside the opening ten minutes of the second half with three fine efforts from frees. Killyon were struggling to get into the game but a goal from Coyne reignited their challenge. Three points separated the teams as the game entered the last ten minutes. David Mitchell’s men took control on the remainder. Gannon (2), Cathal McKeon (2) and a Duignan goal wrapped up a good days work for the team in red and green.  

Killyon take on Dunderry in round 5 while Longwood who are on the same points play table toppers Kilskyre/Moylagh. Blackhall who take on O’Mahony’s in their final group game are relegated to Intermediate for 2027.
