Navan O’Mahony’s suffered a second-half turnaround against Trim in the opening round of the Senior B Championship, with Trim finishing the last few minutes strongly. It was wintery conditions, with a strong wind and heavy rain.

Trim opened the scoring, but O’Mahony’s quickly settled into the game with points from Mia McNally and Isabel O’Connor. After Trim restored their lead from a free, O’Mahony’s hit a purple patch, with points from O’Connor, Cara Ratty and Lauren Woods before O’Connor found the back of the net to put O’Mahony’s 1-4 to 1-2 ahead. In this time, Amanda Feeney made a great clearance at the opposite end of the pitch

The momentum continued, with Ratty adding another point before Mia McNally struck for O’Mahony’s second goal, taking advantage of the Trim netminder blocking down the ball. The sides exchanged points for the remainder of the half and O’Mahony’s went in five ahead.

Trim came out strongly after the restart and immediately began to eat into the O’Mahony’s lead. A goal from a free was followed by two points, bringing the sides level at 2-06 apiece.

Trim took the lead again in the forty-third minute, with it swinging in O’Mahony’s favour again three minutes later following points from Woods and Jorja Keogh. With five minutes on the clock, Trim pointed from a 45 and edged ahead almost immediately from play. 

While O’Mahony’s needed a score at this stage, Trim finished the match strongly, and added to their third goal with 45s and frees to run out as seven point winners. While O’Mahony’s will be disappointed, tere were a number of positives with some great clearances from Tara Fay, Alannah Brady, Megan Kinsella and Mags Tomkins amongst others. Anna Gardiner put in a serious shift in midfield and was crucial to much of the play, while the substitutes who came on also made an impact.
