Carnaross 3-14 St Brigid’s 2-13

Carnaross and St. Brigid’s served up an entertaining encounter in the resplendent setting of Moylagh on a sun-kissed Saturday evening. A large North Meath crowd was in attendance to watch The Ross pick up an opening round win in the championship for the third consecutive year.

The first half was evenly matched with Carnaross starting the brighter, scoring two goals that were expertly finished by young guns Paddy Morris and Oisín Yore. The O’Reilly brothers kicked a brace a piece to keep pace with the Ballinacree men who then struck for a badly needed goal after Liam Day did well to deny their first effort. Pat Clarke added to the encounter encouraging the tackle with both sides relishing the physicality of the contest. At half time, Carnaross led by the minimum despite having the wind at their backs.

The game was won in the third quarter when the men in maroon and amber registered 1-6 to Brigid’s solitary point. The midfield duo of Dermot McGee and Luke Gillic registered 0-4 between them with Morris and substitute Donaghy accounting for the remaining 1-2. Brigid’s eventually hit their purple patch registering a goal and 2 two pointers in the final 10 minutes. The score line may have been closer were it not for a heroic block by Eoin Ennis, some tigerish defending from the full back line and some smart goalkeeping by Liam Day in the nets. Carnaross continued to keep the scoreboard ticking over with Donaghy and the O’Reillys raising white flags. Congratulations to Hugh O’Reilly, Eoin Ennis, Drew Donaghy and Conor Yore who all made their championship debuts for the club.

Attention now turns to Round 2 where we face St. Vincents who drew with Curraha in the first round.
