Navan O’Mahony’s suffered a four-point defeat to St Patrick’s in the Meade Farm Intermediate Football Championship, despite holding a three-point lead at half-time.

O’Mahony’s made the better start and were impressive in the opening period. Cormac Nugent opened the scoring within ninety seconds before Duggie Dillon added another point shortly afterwards.

 Nugent continued to be a threat in attack, adding two further points as O’Mahony’s built a 0-5 to 0-2 advantage. Robbie Keelaghan then converted a free to leave four between the sides, before St Patrick’s reduced the deficit with a late point.

Nugent extended the lead to five within two minutes of the second half, landing a superb two-pointer to make it 0-8 to 0-3. The flow of the game changed dramatically over the following few minutes. St Patrick’s hit two quick points. In the thirty-eighth minute, St pats won possession to curl the ball into an empty net from a distance and drew the game level

Another point from St Pats put them in front for the first time, and they continued to build momentum with further points to move four ahead. Aodhan Mallon pulled one back for O’Mahony’s in the 45th minute, but St Pats responded with two more points to leave the score 1-9 to 0-9.

O’Mahony’s refused to give up, with scores from Keelaghan, Nugent and Christy Dillon but St Pats were also dogged and kept the score-board ticking over. The last scores of the game came for St Pats, leaving them as four point winners.
