St Ultans 0-18 Dunderry 0-10

St Ultans secured the points with victory over neighbours Dunderry on Saturday evening in Dunganny.

Ultans played into a swirling breeze in the first that made any shots from distance a challenge. Dunderry opened the scoring but Ultans replied with a Ruairi Buchanan free after Tom Brennan was fouled. Adam Rogers gave Ultans an early lead but Dunderry responded with two point to regain the lead. Ultans were defending well with multiple turnovers and enjoyed a period of dominance with scores from Brennan, Reilly, Rogers and Buchanan. The left Ultans three points up with ten minutes left in the first half. Dunderry narrowed the gap to two a few minutes before half time. Dunderry drew the sides level with an excellent two point free from Sean Brennan and could have been further ahead but were denied by a fantastic save from Keith Hennessy on a shot that looked destined for the top corner of the net.

Ruairi Buchanan opened the scoring  but this was quickly cancelled out by Dunderry. Gearoid Rennicks a half time substitute made a big impact scoring a point after a trademark run and then following up with a two pointer. Momentum was now with the men in green. Cillian Yore was fouled in midfield but kept running on the advantage rule was fouled again on the 21 to leave a routine free for Buchanan. Keith Hennessy then kicked a monster two pointer to leave six between the sides. Dunderry responded with a free to close the gap. Ultans were awarded a free for a breach and choose to go for a one pointer to extend the lead further. The defensive unit withstood everything Dunderry could throw at them in last ten minutes with multiple turnovers. Ultans continued to push on the scoreboard with Foster and Buchanan adding further scores. Keith Hennessy capped a fine performance with a full length save from a late Dunderry penalty. The blend of youth and experience and a strong bench were key factors in victory.
