Playing with the wind, the winners produced a strong first-half performance to set themselves on the road to victory. Ratoath opened the scoring through points from Michael Ryan and Leo Goodall. Eoghan Enright brought Baconstown into the game with their opening goal.
The sides were level at 1-1 to 0-4 after 10 minutes before Baconstown took control. Enright struck for his second goal, while points from Dara Cole on either side of a Larry Wall goal helped Baconstown establish a 3-3 to 0-4 lead at the interval.
Ten minutes into the second half, the team in maroon and white still held an eight-point advantage. Ratoath narrowed the gap with fine points from Michael Gallagher, Conor Fitzgerald (2) and Greg Campbell before Fitzgerald raised a green flag to reduce the deficit to just two points.
Baconstown, however, were not to be denied and, thanks to some outstanding defending in the closing stages, they held on to claim the Shield title.
After the game, Barbara Munnelly presented the Shield to Baconstown captain Brayden Kelly.
