St. Seachnall's N.S., Dunshaughlin 4-5 Gaelscoil na Bóinne 4-0
Harry McCarthy was the star of the show as St. Seachnall's N.S. claimed the Meath Cumann na mBunscol Development Schools Hurling Shield with a five-point victory over Gaelscoil na Bóinne. It was the Dunshaughlin school's first-ever hurling title. PHOTOS
Playing with the wind, the winners dominated the opening half and led 2-4 to 0-0 at the break. McCarthy accounted for 1-3, while Darragh Kenefick (1-0) and Cian McGrath (0-1) completed their first-half tally.
Will Mac Gabhann gave Gaelscoil na Bóinne some hope with a goal in the opening minutes of the second half. However, that score was cancelled out by McCarthy's second green flag, and when Paddy McHale struck for goal number four, St. Seachnall's appeared to be well on the road to their first title.
Gaelscoil na Bóinne had other ideas and three quick goals from Hugh Mac Gabhann, Adam Ó Deoráin and Cuán Mac Sandair narrowed the lead to five points. Time eventually ran out for the Trim school, and St. Seachnall's were crowned champions for the very first time.
After the game, Barry Slack presented the Development Schools Hurling Shield to joint captains Luke Hughes, Éanna O'Callaghan and Harry McCarthy.
