St. Michaels 0-13, Slane 1-10
Division 3 is hotting up entering the final rounds with just 2 points separating the top five teams and Slane who sit on top of the table can feel a little disappointed when top scorer Shane McDonnell prevented them from collecting both points on offer with his equaliser three minutes into injury time in an entertaining clash in Carlanstown on Saturday evening last. McDonnell proved to be the thorn in the Slane's side throughout as he notched up 10 points to his name including two 2-pointers and if he had judged the wind better on a couple of other occasions the scoreboard could have looked a lot different for the home side.
The game was tight throughout with the visitors two up at the break. Slane started at a blistering pace and opened the scoring after only 30 seconds. Matthew Halpin cancelled that score out a minute later. Slane fired over the next three minors (2 f's) by the end of the first quarter. A Daniel Murphy converted free stopped the rot before Paddy Tobin put McDonnell through for his opener from play on 21 minutes. McDonnell drew his side level with his second effort from play and one from a placed ball, Slane managed to add a brace to go two ahead at the break 0-7 to 0-5.
McDonnell split the posts with a two pointer from a free four minutes into the new half, he added from another free minutes later before Slane rallied and struck with a fierce shot to the back of the St. Michaels net to go back in front. The final quarter was evenly contested and both sides were guilty of missed chances, McDonnell and Declan Reilly pointed for the home side to keep them in the contest and Slane thought they had secured both points in the 59th minute but much to their dismay and the delight of the home side, that man Shane McDonnell had the final say with the leveller on 63 minutes.
