FL Div 5: Cortown down Drumconrath

June 08, 2026

Cortown's Kevin Muldoon

Cortown 3-11
Drumconrath 2-10

Cortown took a major step towards automatic survival by recording their third win in four games, this time against Drumconrath on Sunday afternoon.

Despite being severely understrength, the home side still had too much class for their opponents despite trailing by five points in the early stages of the second half.

Gordon Weldon's wind-assisted visitors led for the majority of the opening period with Matthew Durnin leading the charge for his side. Elliot Reilly's exquisite chipped goal did prove to be a major score in that opening half with a Hugh Staunton free and a Tommy Smith point completing the Cortown scoring with the Drums taking a 0-7 to 1-2 half-time advantage.

A goal at the beginning of the second half stretched the side in reds lead to five before Cortown really clicked into gear. Ciarán Keating started the revival by slotting away a penalty kick after Jake Coyne had been hauled down.

Smith then went two-point mad, launching over a couple in quick succession to give Cortown the lead for the first time at the three quarter point. Further scores from Coyne and a second deft chip over the head of Eoin Muldoon from the excellent Smith put the icing on the Cortown cake to silence the hostile travelling contingent.

The win gives Davy Wright's some much needed breathing space from the Relegation zone. A valuable two-points for the hosts.
