Nobber's Sean Meade

Nobber 5-10 (25) St Peters Dunboyne 2-13 (19)

Nobber welcomed St Peters Dunboyne to their home grounds on Wednesday evening last for their A League Round 8 fixture. Nobber showed a great hunger, bite, and determination on the evening all over the field and took home the two points on offer. A beautiful summer’s evening for football with the sun shining the black and ambers played some entertaining stuff throughout. They started brightly with points from the lively and impressive Korede Otubango, the skilful Sean Meade, and the towering figure of Thomas Murtagh. Nobber conceded an unfortunate goal early on but responded well and after 14 minutes they led by three points.

Sean Carolas and his management team would have been happy with the following three minutes of play, with Sean Meade showing his movement and pace and finishing well to the back of the net. Then two minutes later youngster Otubango showed his class and promise by blasting past the Dunboyne keeper to raise another green flag for Nobber. The Deesiders concluded their scoring for the first half with a fine goal by the energetic Conor Owens who unfortunately had to the leave the field through injury after finishing a fine team move. The shine and glow of Thomas Murtagh’s beard was glorious to see for all of the Nobber fans and he scored a point to the delight of the home crowd towards the end of the first period.

Half-time – Nobber 3-6 (15) St Peters Dunboyne 1-5 (8)

The black and ambers were determined to keep their momentum going at the start of the second period and substitute Jojo Ogunbe scored a nice point into the O’Carolan College end of the ground. Nobber continued to set up attacks, yet their defence were kept busy at times and Eanna Fagan and Tony McEntee remained tight to their markers and got important turnovers to help set up crucial attacks for the North Meath men. Paddy Clarke had a powerful game at wingback and showed lots of energy, positive movement, and direct running throughout the evening. The impressive midfield duo of the experienced Paul Meade and the youthful Gustas Pocevicius steadied the ship for Nobber throughout the evening and proved a good link between defence and attack.

Further scores from the black and ambers included points from Murtagh, Larkin, and a classy finish from Sean Meade weaving throughout the Dunboyne defence. Meade completed his hat-trick with a goal firstly assisted by wingback Donohoe and finishing a penalty in the 51st minute coolly to the back of the net.

Overall, Nobber will be very happy with the performance and the win and will hope to work on some things going into the next fixture but take the positives at the same time.
