O’Mahony’s suffered their first loss of the Div 3 HL on Saturday afternoon with a two point defeat away to Donaghmore/Ashbourne.
O’Mahony’s got off to a quick start, with a pointed free from Jack Walsh and a score from play by Tom Condon in the opening four minutes. The hosts responded with a point in the fifth minute before taking the lead with a goal moments later.
Both sides added points but Ashbourne stretched ahead midway through the half with their second goal to leave six points between the sides. This lead was extended to eight with two further points before Walsh broke the momentum with a free.
After a Condon point, Dermot McKenna’s hard work paid off when he broke through for a goal on the cusp of half time, to leave five between the sides.

O’Mahony’s again had the better start to this half, with Walsh pointing from play within thirty seconds. Within another ninety seconds, he had added a free while Paddy Dillon scored from play to leave two in it.
Donaghmore Ashbourne hit the next two scores, a 65 and a point from play. The sides exchanged points, with Walsh scoring twice for O’Mahony’s and four points separated the sides midway through the half. In the next ten minutes, Ashbourne extended their lead to six again.
With five minutes on the clock, Walsh was blocked down for a goal shot but regained possession to set up Finn Malone for a goal. Points from McKenna and Dillon reduced the deficit to the minimum approaching injury time, but O’Mahony’s couldn’t get the score they needed. The hosts closed out the game with the last score and ran out as two point winners.
