Moynalty 0-10 Dunboyne 1-14
Dunboyne produced an impressive performance to overpower their hosts in Moynalty on Tuesday evening. Already depleted by injuries, Moynalty suffered a further setback when inspirational forward Paddy Byrne was ruled out during the warm-up, disrupting their preparations. The visitors led from start to finish and rarely looked troubled, even after half-time when the hosts mounted sustained pressure. The defeat, Moynalty’s second in succession leaves them in the bottom four after five rounds played.
Dunboyne raced into an early lead, but the Reds responded through a fine score from wing-back Dylan Farrelly. The visitors quickly replied with another point before carving open the Moynalty defence for the game’s opening goal. Paul Lynch reduced the deficit before Dunboyne added again. Johnny Lynch then stepped up to convert his customary two-pointer, narrowing the gap further. However, Dunboyne were dominating possession around midfield and continued to heap pressure on the Moynalty defence. As a result, they finished the half strongly with three unanswered points to head into the break as deserved leaders.

Moynalty manager Micheál McDermott had clearly delivered some strong words at half-time as his side emerged with renewed intensity. John Brogan narrowed the gap within seconds of the restart, while Bryan McCormack followed up with two further points as the home side enjoyed a sustained spell of possession and created several opportunities. However, much like the opening half, Moynalty failed to make the most of their chances, with a number of efforts drifting wide or dropping comfortably into the goalkeeper’s hands. Just as the hosts looked to be building momentum, Dunboyne struck a huge two-pointer from distance to wipe out the impact of Moynalty’s early pressure.
The visitors quickly followed up with another point and Moynalty began to look like a beaten side. Eanna Bennett was introduced in place of Paul Lynch and immediately got his name on the scoresheet, while Eoin Gilsenan, who impressed throughout, also added a fine point from play.
Two more Dunboyne points from play saw the visitors regain complete control, although Moynalty continued to battle. Jude Gilsenan, introduced for Cathal Donoghue at half-time, also raised a white flag, but any lingering hopes of a comeback were extinguished when Dunboyne finished strongly with two unanswered points of their own.
