Nobber's Dale Larkin

Nobber 1 – 12 (15) Drumbaragh 2 – 16 (22)

Nobber welcomed the red and green of Drumbaragh to their home grounds on Sunday morning last in their A League Division 4 Round 5 fixture. The pitch was looking in excellent condition with the ground hardening up and summer football in full swing.

Both sides started lively with little between them in the early stages. Corner forward Jamie Duffy finished a fine team move and rattled the back of the Drumbaragh net. Conor Owens battled hard around the middle third and showed a good work rate for Sean Carolan’s charges. Sharpshooter Dale Larkin was in good form and was deadly from the placed ball splitting the posts at every opportunity for the black and ambers. The versatile and experienced Paul Meade scored a classy point into the village end goals for the Deesiders. Goalkeeper Dary Hutchinson was impressive in the nets and made a crucial penalty save in the second quarter. Midfielder Mark Condra received an unfortunate black card to leave the Deesiders playing with 14 men going into the final 10 minutes of the first period, the lads battled well and little separated the sides at the interval.

Half-time – Nobber 1 – 5 (8) Drumbaragh 0 – 10 (10)

The third quarter seen both sides trading scores with the Drumbaragh forward line showing good energy and intent at every attacking opportunity. Larkin kicked a fine two pointer into the O’Carolan College end of the ground to make the sides level, however Drumbaragh responded quickly with a goal down the other end to the disappointment of the Nobber faithful. Leading into the final quarter Drumbaragh took control of proceedings in terms of scoring and increased their lead. To Nobber’s credit they never gave in and substitute Korede Otubango as well as wing forward Seamus Fagan showed good energy and commitment to the cause. Full back Eanna Fagan showed good leadership and continued to make life difficult for his opponents but Drumbaragh held on for the win in the end.

Next up for Nobber in Round 6 is an away fixture to table toppers St Brigid’s on Saturday, May 16 7 PM.
