Moynalvey's Padraic Harnan

In a battle of sides looking for their first win it was Na Fianna who came out on top by seven points in this May Bank Holiday Monday round five encounter of the Husqvarna Centre P.R Coyne Div. 1 football league game played at Kilmore Park Moynalvey.

Moynalvey 0-13
Na Fianna 2-14

Moynalvey remain the only side without a win in the Div. 1 league following Na Fianna defeating them in round 5, Na Fianna themselves picking up their first win to leapfrog Moynalvey in the table leaving four teams on two points but Barry O’Keeffe’s charges lie bottom of the table by virtue of Na Fianna’s head to head win here.

Na Fianna led from pillar to post and despite Moynalvey drawing level three times in the second half the Enfield/Baconstown side were never headed throughout.

Early on it looked like Na Fianna were going to run away with it as they opened up a six point lead before Moynalvey eventually got off the mark in the 20th minute when Barry Walsh clipped over from the right had side.

Cormac Rafferty responded to Walsh’s point for Na Fianna before Moynalvey put some sort of respectability on the half time score board with a trio of points from a Vinny Walsh free and a brace from Adam Murphy to leave it 0-7 to 0-4 when referee David Coldrick blew his half time whistle.

Moynalvey started the second half as they had finished the first, half time substitutes Cillian O’Sullivan and David McLoughlin making his seasonal debut combined for the opening score, O’Sullivan pointing a free after McLoughlin was fouled, 0-7 to 0-5.

The sides were level for the first time when after consultation with the umpires David Coldrick awarded a two pointer to David McLoughlin which looked to creep just inside the upright, 0-7 apiece six minutes into the second half.

Cormac Rafferty and McLoughlin traded points before Na Fianna’s first goal came via an excellently taken penalty from Daniel Queeney, which was followed by a point, making it 1-9 to 0-8.

The sides were level for a third time when Craig Gilsenan and Adam Murphy each fired over two pointers, making it draw match 1-9 to 0-12 with ten minutes remaining.

However, it was Johnny Baldwin’s side who finished the final ten minutes the stronger outscoring the home side 1-5 to a Padraic Harnan point in that ten minute period, which included a two point free from Daniel Queeney and a second goal via Oisin Bright in the 4th minute of added time to add that extra bit of gloss to the final score board, 2-14 to 0-13.
