Killyon Hurling and Camogie Club up coming fundraiser on the May Bank Holiday is more then a challenge it is a test of endurance that will push our members to their limits.
For this exciting challenge 40 of our club members will be climbing 4 stunning mountain peaks over 48 hours, starting with Slieve Donard in County Down at 8am on Saturday 2nd May. Then we head down the road to Lugnaquille in County Wicklow, we hope to complete this climb by 7.30pm Saturday evening.
From steep ascents to scenic ridgelines no two climbs will be the same. The next climb will be perhaps the most challenging, Carrauntoohil, Co Kerry. This climb will be done during the night, hoping to be down by 5am on Sunday morning. Aches will begin to set in at this stage, a bed would be nice but not for our Climbers, they must sleep on the bus as they take the long trip up to Mweelrea in Co Mayo for the final climb.
Every donation and sponsorship raised will fuel a real impact for our club but also for Meath River Rescue to who we are donating 20% of funds raised.
Meath River Rescue is a volunteer-based emergency service. They are on call 24/7, relying heavily on trained volunteers who give their time freely. Their work can be demanding and sometimes tragic, but it is a critical service that fills a gap alongside the Gardai, Fire Brigade and Ambulance Service. They welcome all funds raised.
For our club, we hope to continue the development of our new adult and juvenile training pitches. Our aim this year is to get goal posts, ball nets and hopefully toilet facilities in place.
We have set up a Gofundme page. TO DONATE CLICK HERE. All donations are greatly appreciated.
We wish to thank all who have supported us in all our fund raising which helps us to continue to develop our Hurling and Camogie club.
Also, a massive thanks to our climbers who started training for this challenge in January.
